WASHINGTON - secretary The Education Betsy DeVos US today announced $ 65 million in new awards grant to finance the creation and expansion of more than 100 public charter schools with high quality in communities across the country. Through the expansion Opportunity Program Quality Schools Charter (Charter Schools Program, or CSP), more students will have the opportunity to move out of the waiting lists in the schools of their choice. "There are hundreds of thousands of children on waiting lists charter school across America, hoping for the possibility of access to an education that will help them reach their full potential," said Secretary DeVos. "These critical investments in schools charter high quality help make that dream a reality for more students. The current educational interruptions are making clear that students need more options and flexibility to help find the right fit and shape your success in the future. the investments we are making today are really investments in the future of our nation. The awards Charter Schools Program grants competitively to the proposals of the highest quality, assessed by independent reviewers. This year's competition awarded funds to 13 different organizations Charter Management (OCM) proposing to replicate or expand to more than 100 public charter schools with high quality in eight states in the coming years. P>
More than 95% of the funds will go to public charter schools in areas of qualified opportunity. Currently, over 70% of the areas of opportunity lack a public school choice for families. By creating and expanding public charter schools in areas of high quality opportunity, more families living in economically disadvantaged communities have the freedom to choose the educational option that best suits the needs of their children.
