The University of Michigan has agreed to resolve a lawsuit taken last May by students who claim that university officials did not stop sexual Abuse repeated by the former doctor at Robert Anderson University, the university announced on Thursday. As part of the agreement, the University will create and finance a multidisciplinary Standing Committee known as a coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT), a tool commonly used to prevent sexual misconduct in college campuses. The non-monetary settlement is pending approval by the judge of the US District Court. UU Victoria Roberts. P>
In January, the university reached an agreement of $ 490 million with more than 1,000 people who said to Anderson, on his role as head of the health service and then the team doctor, annoyed them for a period 37, until he retired in 2003. He died in 2008. p>

Josephine Graham, now a senior at the university, presented the action demand of the last class on behalf of other survivors. She accused university officials to violate Title IX, law that prohibits sexual discrimination in institutions financed with federal funds, not acting on persistent complaints of sexual assault against Anderson. The demand establishes that the University "continues to lack policies and appropriate procedures to prevent sexual violence on campus, and does not adequately comply with these policies and procedures." P>
Among other things, Graham's suit searched for background controls of all new hires and annual credentials of all medical staff. While the agreement is not necessarily going so far, when establishing the CCRT, it promises a greater neglect of the claims of sexual undue conduct. P>
"This Agreement will modernize the UOFM approach to prevent and respond to sexual violence, and will guarantee our security is a major priority," Graham said in a statement. "The CCRT will allow a greater contribution of those of our community, including students like me, who can help create a better future in our university." "The creation of the coordinated community response team is another important step towards our vision of becoming a national leader to protect our community of inappropriate behavior and sexual misconduct," said University President of Michigan, Mary Sue Coleman, said in a statement. "The structure of the team, which includes the leadership of outside the university, will give a voice to all the members of our community who have a perspective to share this vital effort." P>
