After the clippings of permits, dismissals and benefits during Covid-19, librarians and other workers at the Library at Northwestern University have voted to form a union.

Some of the concerns of the new Union are usually about wanting to say more in working conditions, which prefifted the pandemic. But Michael Babinec, a metadata librarian in Northwestern, said the "university's fiscal response to the pandemic was certainly a catalyst" for the organization.

The Union Drive began seriously at the end of spring 2020, when Northwestern announced that it would clean 250 workers, about 50 of them from the library. They had also been dismissed from two members of the library staff.
