Waubonsee Community College in Illinois is launching a five-year campaign to increase the registration and end rates of Latinx students and work adults.

University leaders announced today that the institution received a subsidy of $ 3 million from US. UU Department of Education dedicated to increasing the capacity of the institution to serve Latinx students. Waubonsee is a Hispanic service institution with a student population that was 31.4 percent Latinx in autumn 2020, according to the University's website. The latest data from the National Center for Education Statistics show 27 percent of Waubonsee students were 25 years old in the fall of 2019.

"As lmography of our communities and higher education continue to continue Changing, it is essential that the student support adapts to meet the needs of populations of fast-growing students, including work adults and Latinx students, "Christine Sobek, president of Waubonsee, said in a press release. "This work is about better understanding the trip of the students, since adults, Latinx and other historically excluded populations experience it, and transforming our approach to train, advise and create simplified ways to a degree or credential."
