The University of Michigan was the only important institution to have informed evidence of the new variant of Coronavirus B.1.1.7 on campus at the beginning of last week.

Five additional universities since then have joined that list.

Universidad Tulane; The University of California, Berkeley; The University of Miami; The University of Texas de Austin and the University of Washington, all have now reported cases of variant B.1.1.7.

While viral mutations are not always a cause of alarm, variant B.1.1.7 of the virus, first discovered in Great Britain, transmits more quickly and efficiently from the previously observed variants of SARS-VOC -2. Some studies have suggested that it can also be more deadly, but there is currently no scientific consensus in the severity of the variant.

With almost 1,000 cases of the new variant so far in 34 states, it was only a matter of time before reaching college campuses.

"At the beginning of the semester, we identified two factors such as potential difficulties: new and more contagious variants of the virus and Fatiga Covid," said Julio Frenk of Miami in a statement of video. "This is precisely what we are seeing playing, our analysis of the test results indicates that some cases are at this moment are caused by the strain of the United Kingdom of the Coronavirus".

Florida is so far the worst state of variant B.1.1.7, with 343 cases, according to 343 cases, according to the Disease Control and Prevention Centers. Florida Tops California, the state with the next highest count, in 187 cases. (Florida officials have attributed this to more tests for the variant).

In response to new cases of variant, as well as a general wave of Covid-19 on campus, Miami last week announced new restrictions for students on their campuses until at least on February 16. Great meetings and activities are canceled in person and students who do not meet in groups of more than 10. Classes, internships, athletics and employment in person, and gymnasium are canceled. The pool will remain open.

"can be tempting to dismiss the threat of new variants. However, we all know that the underestimation of this virus is a mistake," Frenk said in the video. He is also a Physician and Professor of Public Health and was the Minister of Health of Mexico at the beginning of the 2000s.

The University of Michigan has reported 39 cases of variant B.1.1.7 , according to a university. spokesman. At least one introduction to the variant in the community was related to trips to Great Britain. The University recently completed a two-week home stay command for students, although restrictions have now expired.

The two-week break on the activities was intended to give the campus time to sequence your positive test results and check the variants. When the two weeks were completed, university officials felt that goal had been achieved.

"There has not been a widespread diffusion of that variant," said the spokesman. The Health Department in Washtenaw County, where the University is located, similarly, did not recommend extending the order. The university has seen more than 1,000 cases of Covid-19 since January 1, which means that the variant has only been found in a small minority of cases.

UT Austin has only informed only two cases of B. 1.1.7 Variant. So far, there have been 35 known cases of the variant in Texas. A university spokesman said the administration is actively looking for if the new health guidelines are appropriate.

The University of Tulane in New Orleans has now informed a case of the variant that has been confirmed by the CDC. The Administration established a two-week period of new restrictions during an increase of last month, but with that complete period, cases have remained low, indicating that the variant does not seem to be driving a new wave, a spokesman for the college.

Typical COVID-19 tests do not indicate whether a certain variant is present or not. That means that health dep
